If you would like to....
Make a difference in our community.
Establish lasting connections with your neighbors.
Provide much needed support to an all volunteer organization.
....then becoming a member of the Oriskany Falls Volunteer Fire Department or Oriskany Falls Volunteer Ambulance Corps could be the perfect way for you to get involved.
Like many communitites across our region and throughout the country, we continue to experience a critical shortage of available daytime volunteers. This is especially true for emergency medical technicians (EMT's) and ambulance drivers.
No experience is necessary.
There is minimal training require to become a driver for the ambulance.
We offer free training , personal protection equipment and pagers.
A Basic Emergency Medical Technician class is available multiple time a year and is awaiting your arrival. If your concerned about entering a building that is burning, maybe a Fire Police school or a Scene Support class is right for you. There are many jobs at an emergency scene. Individuals are needed all the time to help set up lights, fetch a tool, man equipment to make sure it keeps running, operate a pump, drive a vehicle and help with the clean up of equipment after a call. You can help in any manner that you feel is safe and comfortable as you see fit.
Fire and emergency services are one of the most diverse and challeging professions today. It is this diversity that inspires most men and women to enter emergency services. Imagine having to train yourself to cope with situations that range from building fires, to childbirth, to hazardous chemical spills, to heart attacks, and almost any imaginable emergency situation in between.
This business is not for everyone. You need more than just a desire to help. You need courage and dedication, assertiveness, and a willingness to learn new skills and face new challenges. And you need to have the time, for training sessions, meetings, emergency responses and other duties. Emergency services in not for the meek or timid or for those who lose control during times of crisis.
The personal rewards and satisfaction received form the volunteer emergency services are often beyond description. There is a sense of accomplishment after controlling a building fire, joy and elation when a child is born, compassion for accident victims, and fulfillment in teaching fire safety.
